Over scores 2nd WoO Feature Win at Cochran Speedway6/3/2019
The 2019 season has had huge ups and downs for Rum Runner Racing and Brandon Overton. This weekend was no exception with a win on Friday night and a DNF on Saturday. The #2 team took on the World Of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model tour at Cochran Speedway Friday night and Lancaster Speedway Saturday night. Both tracks were new to the World of Outlaws schedule but very familiar to Overton.
His experience around the Georgia bull ring showed right away with a strong qualifying effort and a dominating heat race win. Starting from the outside front row, Overton slid into 2nd place through the early stages of the race. He and the other top 3 cars swapped positions as they battled through lap traffic. Overton worked his way through the traffic and into the lead with just over 20 laps to go. Using the entire racetrack, Overton was able to open up his lead and go on to win the $10,000 50 lap feature event at Cochran Speedway. This is the 2nd World Of Outlaws feature win for Rum Runner Racing and the 4th for Overton.
Saturday nights event started off much the same as Friday nights. Overton qualified 3rd in his group and once again won his heat race, setting him up for the redraw. After drawing a 1, Overton started on the pole. As the green flag fell Overton fell to 2nd place where he rode, keeping the leader in sight as they approached lap traffic. As he closed in on the leader and started his attack in traffic, the RR tire on his #2 exploded, almost taking the quarter panel with it. After a quick tire change, Overton returned to the track but was swept up in a huge wreck on the following restart. It was a tough ending for another strong showing by Overton and the entire Rum Runner Racing team.
It was a very encouraging weekend for the team as they showed a lot of speed on two totally different style tracks. It will be a quick turnaround for Rum Runner Racing as they head to Eldora for the 2019 Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora speed way, this Thursday thru Saturday night. Overton has had strong runs at Eldora in the past. This will be his first race at Eldora with Rum Runner Racing.
As always, we would like to thank all of our partners that allow us to do what we do. They are a huge part of our success. We are looking forward to carrying this momentum to Eldora and all of the races to follow.
